The Cyber Security Challenge is celebrating its 10th edition this year. The competition has been held at the RMA since 2019 and Defence is a major sponsor. 38 Belgian universities and colleges, totalling some 850 students, were contacted in January-February, including the Royal Military Academy. A first team selection was made during a 36 hours test online in early March. 37 teams made it, including one RMA team.
The two-day competition will be as hectic as ever this year, kicking off today at the Patio. For the 148 participating students, it is 'Capture the Flag' day. They must try to find the hidden answer through a series of imposed challenges to counter a cyber attack. The challenge of the day! A real pleasure for all these students with a passion for information security. Teams of four compete in a pre-final and at the end of the day, some teams are eliminated. Tonight, they will find out who gets to stay for tomorrow's final.
At 5 p.m., the day comes to an end and students will have the chance to meet the various sponsors who came up with the challenges, including Defence. The students can then ask specific questions about the jobs Defence offers in the fight against cybercrime, applied to military operations and much more.
The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow evening at the end of the second day of competition. We will keep you updated and wish all the finalists good luck!
