The Director of Academic Education is responsible for the academic education of students and for academic research.
DEAO has a number of staff members and is responsible for the organisation of:
- the Faculty of Polytechnics
- the Faculty of Social and Military Sciences
- the Centre for Language Teaching
- the University Library of Defence
Staf
The DEAO staff includes the following services:
- Personnel & Budget (ADE-1) manages the staff and budget of the directorate.
- Planning & programmes (ADE-2) draws up the teaching programmes.
- Scientific Research (RSWO) coordinates the fundamental and applied research activities.
- Secretariat.
Faculty of Polytechnics (Fac Pol)
The Fac Pol comprises the following departments:
- Chemistry (CHCH) consists of the Chair of General Chemistry (CGMC) and the Chair of Applied Chemistry (TSCA)
- CISS (short for communication, information, systems & sensors)
- Physics (PHYS)
- Mechanics (MECA)
- Weapon Systems and Ballistics (ABAL)
- Mathematics (MWMW)
Faculty of Social and Military Sciences (Fac SSMW)
The Fac SSMW consists of the following departments:
- Conflict Studies (COST)
- Economics, Management & Leadership (DEML)
- Behavioural Sciences (SCGW - includes the chairs of Law, Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy)
- The Dept of Operations (DOps; is a bit hybrid and is described within the Directorate of Defence College).
Centre for Language Education (CLNG)
The CLNG consists of the following chairs:
- German
- English
- French
- Dutch
- The cell 'Operational English
Scientific research
Scientific research is one of the building stones of university education. The RMA is, of course, also involved in various scientific research projects of the Ministry of Defence. Master's theses are often related to an element of scientific research at the RMA. The coordination is done by the Scientific Research Service (RSWO).
University Library of Defence (BUDef)
The University Library of Defence is located at two sites: the Renaissance Campus and the Queen Elisabeth Quarter in Evere.
